Rev. Dr. Jerry L. Cannon Scholarship

The Rev. DrJerry L. Cannon Scholarship is a prestigious award established in honor of the esteemed Rev. Dr. Jerry L. Cannon, a native of Kannapolis, North Carolina. This scholarship is dedicated to supporting the educational pursuits of outstanding high school seniors in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties who exemplify Dr. Cannon's values of commitment to faith, community service, and leadership.


A scholarship is a financial award given to a graduating high school student to assist with enrolling in college for further education. The scholarship may be used to help defray the cost of tuition, books, fees, supplies, and other educational expenses of attending college. The scholarship is awarded to the student for the academic year. Five (5) scholarships of $1000.00 each will be awarded each year for the fall semester.



Eligible recipients can be members or nonmembers of C. N. Jenkins if they meet the following requirements:


      Be a current graduating high school senior.

      Be accepted and enrolled as a full-time student at a two or four-year accredited college or university, trade school, or community college.

      Have a current cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 unweighted scale.

      Submit two letters of recommendation from non-relatives.

      Must write an essay of 150-200 words. Topic will be provided.

      Must live in Mecklenburg or surrounding counties (Cabarrus, Rowan, Gaston, Union, Iredell, York).

      Must participate in an interview with the committee, either in person or via Zoom.

      Must provide a statement truthfulness.


Recipients of the Rev. Dr. Jerry L. Cannon Scholarship will not only receive financial assistance for their educational endeavors but will also join a prestigious community of scholars committed to making a positive difference in their communities, just as Dr. Cannon has done throughout his remarkable career.


In honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Jerry L. Cannon, this scholarship aims to empower future generations to embrace their potential, pursue their passions, and continue the legacy of faith, service, and leadership in Mecklenburg County and beyond.
